This Just In!

The American Girl Doll Camp in June at the MacNider Museum was a runaway success, so the Museum will offer the camp a second time in July. Campers can expect more opportunities to make creative and stylish clothes and accessories for their American Girl or similar doll, Teddy Bear or stuffed animal playmate. The camp will be held from Tuesday, July 22 through Friday, July 25 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. each afternoon. Cost of the camp is $32, Museum members, $28. Come to the MacNider on Thursday afternoons for art extravaganzas! Each day will be chock-full of things to make and take home with you.

BEAD BONANZA

Learn new rolling techniques and make beautiful beads into rainbow-hued jewelry.

FASHIONISTA WORKSHOP

Ages 7 and up

Ramp up your summer style with a unique wrapped headband or barrettes using floss and decorative embellishments. The next week, whip up an instant shirt using bandanas.

PACKING TAPE SCULPTURE

Wow! Experiment with packing tape to make your friends into life-like sculptures. When you're finished, we'll have a small exhibition and take photos to document your work.

CREATING WITH CLAY CAMP
6 Class Meetings
Ages 5 and up

Get your hands into some mud and learn to handbuild, throw on the wheel and glaze. If you have already had a ceramics class, this camp will give you a chance to make even more projects.

TIE-DYE AND SCREENPRINT CAMP

Get a good look going! Create your own stencils and learn batik and tie-dye. Shirts, socks, totes, bandanas, any natural material can be transformed with your own designs.

ART BUGS CIRCUS McGURKUS CAMP

Dr. Seuss and the Circus McGurkus are coming to town! This camp is an opportunity for children and a parent or caregiver to get to know the museum and explore art materials in a fun environment.

AMERICAN GIRL DOLL CAMP

Food, jewelry, purses, costumes, blankets; there are so many things a doll or teddy bear needs to get along in life! Learn how to make lots of awesome accessories for your doll or stuffed animal playmate. This is a great class for young friends to take together.

PUPPETS AND PEOPLE CAMP

Ages 6-10

Puppets, puppets, puppets! Make puppets, design a stage and cast your creations in a play. The camp will have projects adaptable to both older and younger children. Studio A and outdoors.

AWESOME ARCHITECTURE CAMP
5 Class Meetings
Ages 8-12

Have you ever wondered why the architecture in Mason City is visited by people from all over the world? Famous architects Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Burley Griffin and William Drummond all designed buildings in Mason City. In Architecture Camp we'll study Prairie School and other styles of architecture, find examples in an architectural scavenger hunt, make floor plans for a home, draw a perspective or elevation of a building, design a stained glass window and visit a practicing architect. We'll even create buildings to eat! It will be awesome! Studio A

SUMMER ART CAMP
5 Mornings, Monday - Friday
Ages 7 - 12

Right here in River City! Get ready for a whole week of art fun, making tons of cool things at the MacNider Museum. Experiment with new materials as you paint, build, work with paper, beads, clay and fabric. Create on your own and get together with friends for group projects. Dress for mess! Outdoors, weather permitting.

Scholarships Available

Through generous donations from individuals and groups in the community, scholarships are available to students who normally would not be able to experience an art class. Artful Birthday Parties

The museum offers artistic experiences for birthday and troop celebrations. Your group will receive a tour of the museum and a hands-on art activity in one of our classrooms. The fee includes the services of an art educator, all project materials, and the use of the museum's kitchen facilities. Children should wear clothes appropriate for doing art projects!
