The Shop features artwork by selected professional area and regional artists. The Museum exhibits these works to the public and acts as an agent for the artists. All of the works are offered for sale, while paintings, prints, and photographs can be rented on a monthly basis or purchased. Works from all media are available including sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, and glass works.

The Shop also carries a variety of stationery items, permanent collection postcards, catalogs, T-shirts, Bil Baird items.

NEW to the Shop are art mugs, Frank Lloyd Wright ornaments and jewelry, scarves, homemade soaps from Iowa Natural Soapworks, wax seals and stamps, paint sets, art umbrellas and totes, and even a Kids' Corner.

A part of the museum's program since 1967, The Shop is one more exhibit space where visitors can see and learn about art.

Carl Homstad

Carl Homstad was born in Denver, CO but has lived near Decorah, IA since 1969. Homstad is a painter and a printmaker and The Shop @ the MacNider sells several of his color woodcuts (see right and left). He has sold his work at the MacNider for many years.

Homstad states: "I create images of ordinary places at extraordinary times. For example; in the rain or snow, or in the last rays of the sun. I have tried to understand this place. Putting that understanding into my pictures is a way to show what underlies all places. Although my pictures are based on certain times and places, they exist only in my mind. I like it when they remind you of a place you know, because that means it is also in your mind."
